Light is a very important thing. When God created the world, the first thing He created was light. It is light that enables us to see. Without it, we would not be able to do or see much of anything.
Light is important in our day to day lives, it is essential to almost every form of life there is on this earth.
Jesus says in John 8:12, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."
When the Israelites were in the desert on their way to Caanan, God went before them as a pillar of light to guide them.
As Christians, we should live lives that show that light so that people notice that we are different in that we have hope, and light, in this dark world of sin.
God's word is a lamp unto our feet and a light to our path. (Psalm 119:105)

So now you probably ask, "what should I do to be a shining light in this world?"
Our lives are to be lived out of thankfulness to God for sending his son to die and pay for our sins. We should keep the Law, and help others.

Mark 4:21 tells us that no one lights a lamp and keeps it under a basket, but he puts it up on a lamp stand where its light can shine for all to see. In the same way, those who have been saved from sin and death let their joy and light shine for all to see. Just as Ephesians 2:5 says, "even when we were dead in trespasses and sins, we have been made alive together with Christ.
Now go out, and show the love of Jesus, and be joyful, because you who were once dead in sin, are now alive through Christ.
